BWPUG Meetup Reminder

Hi all!

Just a friendly reminder that we'll be having our first meetup tomorrow as planned. I thought as a good kick-off we could all collaboratively share what we do with PostgreSQL. We'll start off with a whirlwind tour of how OmniTI uses PotsgreSQL, taking a brief look at ZFS, DTrace and large datasets. After that I think it would be good to get to know each other -- maybe we'll hit a local pub afterwards!

Why the need for a group in Columbia when it's just a suburb of DC/Baltimore? I'm not going to exactly start up a NOVAPUG just because I live in Herndon...anyway, I'm just of the opinion that people around DC should support the DC group (I'll be there at 7 tonight) and north of Columbia should go to a Baltimore group.

We meet on the 2nd Weds. of every month, so could you please try in the future to not schedule for the same day? It would be beneficial for both of us, I think.

The Columbia Area Linux User's Group was created back in 2000 and has thrived for eight years. If there is sufficient interest in the area to support a PostgreSQL group, it will do fine. If not, it will disperse. Personally, I prefer meetings in the BWI corridor since it avoids the traffic congestion inherent with DC and Baltimore during weeknights.

I think both Baltimore and Washington are nexuses of technology talent and interest. I think it is unfortunate that they are so close together that they tend to no mingle.

I'd love to see all such meetings (Linux, MySQL, OpenSolaris, BSD, PostgreSQL) be in the BWI corridor. It is convenient to both cities and going after work is almost always against traffic. I live closer to Washington DC and work closer to Baltimore. I want people from both in the meetings. Both Columbia and Laurel are awesome locations for such meetups.
